"When no boys are in the classroom girls take part more. They answer more questions, and they argue more. I guess you would say they debate more, but I remember the same situation happening when boys were in the class and a couple of them yelled out "Cat Fight!" The girls got angry, and they stopped debating."

Equine Program at Copper Canyon Academy Helps Teen Girls Learn Patience, Communication, and Other Life Skills
Copper Canyon Academy first offered an equestrian program as an elective recreational activity for their teen girls. Counselors soon began to notice that the girls who participated in the equestrian program were opening up better and that their behavior overall seemed to be improving at a faster rate.
Copper Canyon teachers and counselors recognized that an equestrian program offers young women more than just a fun opportunity to ride horses. Copper Canyon has expanded their Equestrian Therapy program, also known as Equine Assisted Therapy or Animal Assisted Therapy. They have been gratified by how well the program works for girls who have a history of not responding well to traditional "talk therapy" and for students with attachment/bonding issues.
The horses essentially become a "co-therapist" of sorts - the interaction between the girls and these powerful creatures fosters patience, understanding, compassion, and respect, but most of all, it teaches young women about boundaries and how critical communication is in any relationship.
